Patience and...Rats?

Here I sit, fresh from a meditation class last night. I woke up this morning SO refreshed, though I had no real reason to be. Other than, of course, that I had a whole hour just breathing. Breathing. Breathing. Oh, I can't even describe it! Wonderful. It is so easy to get lost in the yimmer-yammer that runs through the brain every single minute. I had no idea how strong my self talk was. Pretty negative, too! So tiring!

Now, if I could just keep that peace with me as I go about the daily activities, things would be golden. I suppose things will get a bit easier as I move into the practice a little more.

Part of my general *blah* today is that my work is so slow in selling right now. I haven't had a lot of new requests lately and it is starting to get me down. I opened a new etsy shop today and I am already grumpy about it. It only has two listings right now, as I became a little frustrated at how poorly my work photographed today and just stopped. I can't think of the last time I just didn't continue. I am pretty tenacious, in a good way, and will usually work a problem until I have at least a minimally functional solution. The lighting was poopy and I am just not good at snapping jewelry, generally speaking, and I just..*sigh*.... There is a real art to balancing the reflections and showcasing each piece. I have seen some amazing photos lately. I'll try to earmark some of them and list 'em here for your perusal next time.

Well, I think I'll stop there. I could go off on many tangents tonight-child based, home based, me based, but I want to go breathe...

Peace to all! I will be more chipper next time! Promise!

Here is a picture of a rat I have worked on recently....Again, pardon the poor pix. Terrible lighting issues today!

Happy crafting!

  1. The rat is great, I love that he has a toy :)

I hate taking photos too, becuase they are always dark and horrible. We both need a light box set-up. My problem is I'd rather not spend any money on that, if im going to spend money I want something fun.

Meditating sounds ... hard, I cannot imagine 5 min being left alone being able to breath deeply and being able to settle my mind. I think that is what I use my garden for. When Im out there noone from my family comes out to bug me, or they might have to work :)So I get a good yummy peaceful feeling when Im there.

    Peace Sista,

  2. I know what you mean about the light box...I was thinking about that, since my birthday is this month, but my youngest has some issues with his teeth all of a sudden. Que sera sera! Everything in it's own time, I guess.

The meditation was a littler harder than I thought, but because someone was there guiding it, it was do-able and I was REALLY relaxed when we finished. (She is the same gal from whom I used to take yoga. Really quirky and cool.) If I had to try to do it all on my own every time, I think I would be up a creek...I'd probably make it two minutes and then pop up to make something/do laundry/eat popcorn/read.

What are you planting this year? Do you do flowers or food? Both? I think we are doing the standard tomatoes, sugar snaps, zucchini, herbs, and bell peppers again this year. It seems to work, though we are behind in soil prep right now. Lazy me!

Good to hear from you as always. Thanks for the kind words about the rat. I am stalled a bit in the creation department right now, so I have been making myself just start things with no plans to see what happens. He still needs some refining...I may pull his hands off again and he definitely needs some ratty teeth. Grizzly looking thing, no? I should make him a trash can...

    More soon. Take good care.

  3. Hi Theresa, You are not alone with the slow Etsy shop. I remember when I would wake up everyday to at least one sale now I get one a week. I am so bad at pictures but here is what my husband did for me. This was a free from our garage.
    Supplies
    box
    can of white spray paint
    painters tape
    light fixture and bulb
He made the box taped it sprayed the inside. Then he cut a hole in the top and dropped the light in. This is not the best light box but it works on days I cant get good pictures outside. If you look at my Flickr you will see pictures taken in the box. I photo shopped some because my husband is not good at details so I have a lot of seams showing.

    Here is my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/29509624@N06/

The meditation souds wonderful. I think getting my brain to slow down would be difficult.

  4. Thanks, Laura! I appreciate the help and the flickr link!

This is what I love about the handmade community. So many people are willing to reach out to one another. Kindness rules!
