You Can't Blame Me for Being Distracted!

First, there were all of these amazing sunsets last week.

The colors were really vibrant.
On the night I didn't have my camera, the sky was lavender and purple.

Amazing!

We went to the desert for New Year's and saw lots of new sights.
I thought these cacti were lovely with the back lighting.

And the best part was the badger.
No, he wasn't a honey badger, but he did make me want to take a break from my work to just sit and do as I pleased.

So I did!

Glad to be back. Hope to have some new items to post on Thursday.

Christmas Kitsch

For your viewing pleasure, some of my weird Christmas items.

I collect all kinds of mushroom ornaments.

This is a gift from my hubby.
He is supposed to be in the garden, I think, but I keep him in my living room.

A weird turnip man.
My husband and I couldn't figure out why we liked him so much.
Then we realized it looked a lot like my husband's grandfather!
Grandpa Turnip!

Here is my contribution to the "glass" tree.
It is Styrofoam. I am SO like that.
This came from Santa's Village in CA.
It reminds me of my childhood.
Kitsch-rific, no?

This is my husband's favorite childhood ornament.
Plastic Santa on a plastic plane on a velvet wrapped box.
Ah, the 70's.

Little Amanita Collector

Everyone needs a job to do.

Some build homes, some gather moss for clothing, and some stay home and mind the wee ones. Not her!.

She was meant for the winter air.

This one gets to find the amanitas buried in the snow before the reindeer find them.

It isn't always a simple task.

Sometimes the mushrooms are larger than

she is!

Her mushroom cap helps her to blend in when there are other creatures afoot.

Spun Cotton Mermaids

Two of them, to be exact.

One in aqua and one in periwinkle.

Sometimes when I am working I just go with the flow and wait to see what will happen.

These were made at the same time I was completing a commissioned piece.
A little planned, a little unplanned; this is how I get to enjoy my work all of the time.

Christmas Spun Cotton

Just right for your feather tree!

These three ladies were so fun to make and I am really pleased with how they came out.

They are spun cotton over an armature with hand sewn crepe paper clothing.

Some of the clothing is cotton as well, heavily glittered, of course!

Each angel has golden, German paper wings.

I hope to have them in my etsy shop by tomorrow evening.

I think I like this one even better than the original.

I must say, however, that I find it far harder to replicate a previous piece than to create something new.

November Must Be Mutt Month...

I have been having a blast making non-breed specific dogs.

It is especially fun because so many people end up contacting me telling me all about their dogs that look just like the ones I have felted.

Here is the latest. I modeled her after a dog from my youth named Dirty Sally.

Her owner said she was a wire haird pig with toothpicks for legs.

I just thought she was cute.

What Do You Think About the Background?

Well, do we like background or is it too distracting?

I can't decide!

This is a Tomten I needle felted from wool.

Tomten live in haylofts. They visit with the farm animals through the long winters and remind them that summer is coming.

I think I like the way he looks as he stands in the snow outside of the main house.

The background is a bit bright when the lighting is more direct, but I don't know if that is a bad thing or not.

Opinions would be appreciated. I value your thoughts!

Today's Color Palette

This is my favorite palette: a piece of 'Press and Seal' stuck to my table.

When I am done painting, I fold it up and put it in the trash. Easy peasy!

Here are the colors of the sky in the new background I am painting.

The pictures I have been taking of my work have been slipshod at best lately.

I find myself lacking the time to make new items AND take lovely photos of them before shipping them off to their new homes.

I am hoping a new, mellow background for my photobox may help. We shall see.

Bake Sale! Woot!

I love when the kids' bake sales coincide with holidays!
Here is what we made for the one today.

Silly spiders!
The spiders weren't exactly jet black, as I didn't have time to make a separate chocolate icing to tint black, but they are close enough for little ones to get the idea.

Plus the edible red glitter on their backs should bump up the "bling" factor.

How do YOU do it?

I have finally come to the realization that it isn't that I don't have enough time to create; it is that I feel guilty using the time to do something that I find so enjoyable, even though it brings in money.

I told myself that I would be able to stay home and still get lots of work done, but that hasn't been the case. There is always one more load of laundry, one more errand, one more you-name-it that I think I need to do before I get to my own work.

And then I never get to my own work. Once the kids are home, all bets are off.

Has anyone else out there struggled with similar issues? If so, how did you handle it?

I was thinking that I might need to move my studio elsewhere, but I don't know how efficient that will be in the long run. Could it make things worse?

Help!

Baba Yaga Revisited

Hallelujah! I'm Back!

What a tribulation! I have had a "somewhat" working computer for months, which means I could post items to some sites, but was unable to access others. Very odd, no? At times, I was able to load new bits to my etsy site, other times not. The one constant was that I was not able to get into my blogger postings. Distressing!

But my new and well working computer has fixed the problem and I am back. I feel as though it will take me months to catch up with everyone and what has been going on in your lives. Glad to be back, especially in October, when so many artists are making fantastic dolls/gee-gaws/ornies to post. I can't wait to see everything!

Just to have something to share, here is a 5 inch doll that is composite over cloth with an encaustic finish. Odd, huh? Sometimes I don't understand myself!

New Felt for Fall

I tried blending some needle felting with some lovely old woolen fabrics to create this pumpkin lady and her baby.

She is wired for 'poseability'.

She still needs a little tidying up, but should be done and ready for sale by tonight.

...and I FINALLY have something new to post.

I made this little kitty for my husband's auntie; a pocket sized memory of her own cat.

She has her own tiny mouse and a green ball.

This is her back view. She is a pudgster...just like the real one!

I have been absent for a bit. I have been making many things, but haven't had the time to take great photos and post them.

This shot was taken as we were getting ready to go to the plane, so I didn't have too much time to worry about background and lighting and such.

Maybe I would be better off not fretting too much about the photos. I would certainly be able to show more of what I do.

And wait until I show what I found in the antique malls!

Break it Up!

Yes, I have been M.I.A.

My real life keeps getting in the way of my artsy life. *sigh*

See? I am constantly having to break up fights. The dolls are picking on the monster again for loving his Peter Rabbit cup. He, in turn, mocks their overly shiny finishes.

Can't we all just get along?

When I am not breaking up fights, I am working on spun cotton. I have a genie, cat, rabbit and bookworm in the works and am sketching ideas for the 4th of July. I'll post pictures soon.

Year of the Rabbit

I've been in a spun cotton bunnies sort of mood. So I thought I'd make a few bunny faces and see what would happen. Well, I got a bit more than I planned for...bunnies everywhere!

Of course, an artist cannot live by bunnies alone, but it is a start.

I am fleshing out a whole line of my spun cotton and paperclay ornies.

I'll be starting with an animal theme.

Preliminary sketches are on paper and the first batch should be rolling out next week.

Break from the Pressure

I am officially taking a break. An artistic break, that is.

I feel as though I have been spinning my wheels, trying to force something out of nothing.

I think taking a break from commission work and from pressuring myself to produce, produce, produce will bring back a bit of the joy that comes with raw creation.

Time to get back in touch with my own muse in my own way.

If I make something new, I'll post it for your perusal.

If I don't make anything, that will be OK, too.

Hooray! Sweet Pea is finally posted on eBay.

I am still a novice to eBay. I know how to BUY from eBay....no problemo there!

It is the "tagging" that baffles me every time.

(Tail wagging, I understand!)

Sweet Pea ended up being listed under collectibles, though I think she would have done better listed under artist teddy bear. That is the market that would most likely find her interesting.

Here is my latest bear pattern.

I made him so that he would be a perfect little handful. He has a plumpy little bottom, jointed legs/arms/head, and a swoopy nose.

This one is made of sparse blonde mohair and is stuffed with wool and shot.

Ideally, I can work AND post, just not as of late.

Here is one of my latest little mohair creations. She'll have an embroidered nose by tonight and a wee collar. (Pineapple not included.)

I call her Sweet Pea.

Our yard seems to think that Spring has sprung.

Spring means beautiful blossoms, but it also means that my schedule goes through the roof with the kids' activities, so while I'll do my best to read everyone's posts, I can't promise how many of mine will actually come to fruition.

Foxy Loxxen and his toy chicken

Foxy was made from a pattern that I created.

He was completely hand sewn and hand tinted.

He is stuffed with wool and weighted with shot.

Foxy is jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips, so he can stand or sit.

I went on a bear kick recently.

This is Barnum. He is completely hand sewn.

He is made of distressed mohair, has cotter pin jointing, has German blown glass eyes, and was an all around fun piece to make.

I took a cigar box and made a little environment for him, too. It has a circus theme.

Here is the rub: I don't know where to post him for sale!

I'd like to try eBay again, but what if he ends up going for $10 or some crazy number like that? A LOT of work went into him.

I could put him in my etsy shop, but then it could take a while for him to sell.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Have you had success on eBay (or a horror story)?

Last Christmas Offering

My husband had a last minute "oops" and remembered that we didn't have a gift for his aunt.

Technically, we didn't need one, since we didn't draw her name in the gift exchange, but she always puts on a lovely Christmas dinner and it just seems right to honor her in some small way.

Soooo....since she collects bears, he thought I could make her a bear for Christmas.

I had a little mohair, so that is what I used. He is tiny, fully jointed and has glass eyes.

I almost used a glass nose, too, but his face seemed to ask for an embroidered one.

He measures about five inches tall, though he prefers to sit.

A Home for January

Here is the finished product.

January was created for a doll swap.

Rather than choosing a specific holiday, I chose to choose a "non-holiday".

The month of January always seems to be overlooked and underappreciated.

This doll is light weight paper clay with psuedo joints.

She is wearing a spun cotton shirt, a white mohair wig and has inset eyes.

I should have found a better backdrop for this one, as I don't think the true preciousness of this piece works with the tinsel tree as a backdrop, but I was a bit short on time.

These are tiny needlefelted acorns dangling from a retro-style bow.

It is a stunner in person and was created by Brenda Radzinski. LOVE it!

Blue Sky Studio sent this prim style stocking, but I have to tell you that the packaging on this one was as wonderful as the ornament.
It was enclosed in a pocket of sheet music that had been sewn and beribboned.
The presentation was so SPECIAL!
It made me want to step up my own shipping practices.

This was the first piece I pulled from my box when I got it and I have to say, I smile every time I pass it.
What a clever idea, no? And really well executed, too.
It is vintage-y and glitter-y and all of the things that make a great decoration.

Retro Snow

Here are the latest snowmen to hit my etsy shop!

They are silly-sweet, I think.

I'm not sure how well the tinsel tree works in the photos, but I feel that the snowmen are easier to see than they were when I used my newly made white feather tree.

I really found the making of the tree relaxing.

RIP Crabbie

I am so sad. I accidentally committed spider-cide last night.

This pretty crab spider has been an outdoor companion for over a month. I loved going out and trying to find where he was hiding. He seemed to travel from the roof to the little yellow flowers on our porch. My kids liked to make a careful check prior to running outside, as sometimes he would be a little too close for comfort, in their opinion.

Last night, I went out into the backyard long after the sun had gone down. I like to leave the lights off so as to enjoy the night skies and find a little peace. I never gave him a second thought.

I went to open the screen door and IT happened; as I pushed the thumb button that opens the door, I felt a little smush. Yikes!

*sob* I loved that spider.

What Shall We Be This Year?

The discussions have begun....which is good, since one of them has a costume coming from Asia! Yikes!

Angels Attic De-aquistion Sale

Angels Attic is having its annual de-acquisition sale.

These dolls probably aren't the ones that will be up for sale.

These are just a few samples of the great dolls one can see at the museum.

What I can share is that the museum is a nice way to spend a few hours.

I did and I walked away inspired.

Flotsam and Jetsam- What a FIND!

Have you ever found a place where you automatically felt at home?

I have and it was this summer while on vacation in Kensington, MD.

I've been spending a portion of my summer vacations in Kensington for the past 9 years and
I thought I had seen all there was to offer: charming shops, a tea room, lovely greenbelts.

But this year I found Flotsam and Jetsam Antiques.

See the precious little doll on the left? She is mine now. I look at her every single day. I admire her lovely hand sewn shoes and her wee felt hat. *sighs happily*

See this squirrel? He is mine now! (I made the Jack ornie.)

My squirrel, similar to one I had in childhood, was a great find. I LOVE him. He opens his arms when you squeeze near his shoulders so that he can clip on to your lapel. Sweet!

I also got a great deal on these pre-WWII German diecut pumpkins. I have some major plans for them. I'd tell you about the plans, but they are secret!

The proprietor, Stacey Newton, is just a doll and a lot of the goodies found within her shop were formally pieces in her own collection. The shop is a beautiful bite of nostalgia mixed with kitsch. PERFECTION! I could have spent a lot more than I did there....very dangerous.

If you are a button hound, this is the place. Stacey has lots of really interesting buttons and bits and bobs. DEFINITELY worth the trip.

Isn't this little wooden house just precious? That's not all!

Look inside! Little gnomes. *shriek* LOVE them!

I hope that if you are ever in the Kensington/Silver Spring/Chevy Chase area, you pop over and see the sights at Flotsam & Jetsam Antiques. It is a darling little place to pop in and say hello and the prices are amazing.

Secrets, secrets

I can't show ANY of the items I have been working on recently. Most of my "things" are for swaps or are gifts!

Lots of work without the ability to share. *sigh*

I did silk screen a baby shirt the other day, so I can show you that.

I actually made the screen to be used on dish towels, but I had some onesies and thought,

"Why not?"

This is what the mushrooms look like.

Weird, huh?

My daughter wonders who on earth will put their baby in a mushroom onesie, but I am a big nature fan and I would have done so!

I think it is quirky-fun-different.

(Heck, most people I know would say that I am "different", so maybe that is why I like it.)

So... Where's the Art?

Well, in my defense, I WAS on vacation.

In beautiful Ouray, CO, to be exact.

You try to work when your eyes are distracted by skies like these.

Very difficult.

I was blessed to be able to see views like these daily. I came home feeling invigorated and ready to work.

It was the having to come home part that was so sad.

Now, as for the art? My daughter, an artist in her own right, and I happened to be very lucky on this trip and it was the 50th year of the Ouray art show.

In honor of this occasion, local artists from the surrounding communities came in to share their knowledge re: technique.

We decided to attend a few workshops, including colored pencil and encaustic.

Did I just hear you shriek out loud?

Be nice! This was my first attempt at encaustic.

I layered, carved, embedded....a bit of everything.

Not my shiniest moment, but it was fun. It is liberating to try new things. Scary, but liberating.

This one may end up on BarterSauce, if they would take it!

Frida Almost Done

This Frida Kahlo doll was made from spun cotton over wire. She has a muslin face, a mohair wig, antique milliners flowers in her hair, and hand sewn clothes.

She still needs her spun cotton heart attached to the outside of her body so she can hold it.

She still needs some work to clean up loose threads and to tidy up/finish her shawl.

She still needs some refining of her basic features.

I just posted her now because I was afraid that, if I didn't, I would not post her at all.

She was a bit outside of my normal comfort zone.

A little anxiety can be a good thing, right? RIGHT??

Yudu? I don't!

I bought the Yudu as a birthday gift for myself last year because I love to make silly/quirky things and I always have these great ideas for t-shirt logos...usually while driving.

I digress.

At any rate, I watched the informercials, double checked the early reviews and thought I had a winner on my hands. When the $50 off coupon at Michaels came up, I pounced.

Well....the Yudu isn't as easy to use (in my humble opinion) as they would have you believe. In fact, tenacious though I may be, I am about ready to quit. I broke down today and took a peek at non brand products that may be easier to use.

The main problem I have had is with the emulsion sheets. They don't cover well or easily and they take forever to dry. They aren't cheap, either! If you goof them up, which apparently I am not alone at doing as this is the major complaint I see on the sites, you can put yourself into the poor house.

I broke down and purchased a hack kit with a different kind of emulsifier for the screen that is supposed to be compatible. The reviews from real crafters seem to suggest that this is an easier way to go.

I sure hope so! I am tired of all of my wicked-cool t-shirt ideas just bouncing around inside my head.

The Curse of the Sea Monkeys

Little did I realize what I was getting into with this one.

Many of you know that I recently became the proud boarder of a dog. I would say owner, but actually it is my daughter's dog. I get the dubious honor of paying for her medical bills, food, and training, but I don't get to claim the dog as my own.

In truth, I enjoy dogs, so this "hardship" is a bit tongue in cheek. She is turning into a good girl and I am glad to accommodate her. Truly.

But the Sea Monkeys? What was I thinking?

My youngest received a gift card for Target and, having the impulse control of a five year old, he was practically salivating to use it. There was a toy he had been wanting to purchase for quite a long time and now he had enough money to do so. Huzzah!

No problem. I needed to pick up some vacuum cleaner bags anyway, so we could kill two birds with one stone and both walk away happy. How often does THAT happen?

We walked into Target and I generously let him go to his section first. He found the proper aisle, pulled the toy off of the shelf and declared that it wasn't as cool as he had thought it would be. The commercial had made it look wonderful. In reality, it was a plastic fist in box.

Decidedly un-thrilling.

I was a bit proud that he was discerning enough to notice and change his mind.

Unfortunately, his discernment led to the portion of the day that we call the "glazed-eyes-toy- wander". Not quite the Trail of Tears, but painful nonetheless.

We hit each aisle. He weighed the pros and cons of each potential purchase like an investor in a down market. He studied. He hemmed and hawed. There was pacing and I may have heard the gnashing of teeth. Meanwhile, my 10 minute trip to the store was s-l-o-w-l-y stretching into 45 minutes. And I still didn't have my vacuum cleaner bags.

He decided on a small Nerf gun (cool because he could clip it to his belt loop and be stealthy) and the Sea Monkeys.

"They really aren't that interesting. They're just brine shrimp, not monkeys," I shared.

"BRINE SHRIMP???? COOOOOL!"

Ummm...that one backfired. Bad mommy moment.

At that point I just wanted to get my bags, get home and catch up with work.

"How long can brine shrimp last?", I thought.

Wellll...................

It has been several weeks and they are doing just fine, thank you very much. In fact, they may be colonizing and I can swear there are a few new babies in there.

At this rate I will have to find a monkey sitter to watch them when we go on vacation this summer. Or I suppose I could board them.

Does Pet Smart do Sea Monkey daycare?

And by the way....Target doesn't carry my vacuum cleaner bags.

Heard of a Chinese Time Sucker?

Nope, I don't have a picture of one. In fact, a Chinese time sucker is more of a situation than a tangible thing that can be touched.

What stinks is that I was planning to blog about the banner I made for my daughter's school dance. I was looking forward to it.

Instead, I just spent the past 30 minutes going back through old posts deleting the Chinese links that are asking (in Chinese, of course) for you to visit porn sites.

I mean REALLY!

And the thing that really, truly bites is that the spammer didn't go through my blog sequentially to add the comments. They were all made today, but were distributed through both newer posts and really old ones, too. Ugh!

Hence the time suck of having to check all my posts to make sure they were "clean".

I do have some nice people from different parts of Asia who stop and leave kind and proper messages, but now I will have to be double sure to translate everything on a regular basis.

My blog is rated G!

Da Godfather? NOT!

No worries! These won't end up in someone's bed anytime soon.

This was my Sunday project; two horse heads for an 8th grade production of Man of La Mancha.

My best work? Well....let's just call it the best I could do with the time I had allotted to me.

I had to scrap my plans several times to find a working model. I was going to build on a hat base, but the hats weren't structured enough.

Carboard bases were too inflexible and "fake" looking.

Then I was going to build an armature, but I didn't have the kids' measurements and that seemed too rigid.

I didn't want to do the chicken wire route as I wasn't sure how comfortable that might be as a hat. It works super well for a mask, though.

So I ended up using a Trader Joe's bag as a base. I fitted canvas to the inside and outside (so the final product remained flexible.)

I decoupaged the canvas with tissue paper, painted it, flocked it and added manes.

The horse hats tie on behind the hair of the wearer. In this way, they can fit almost everyone.

If I had it to do all over again, I bet I could reallllly rock it.

I love trying new things, don't you? The excitement of knowing it could be an abject failure is always a motivator!

What happened??

Well, I guess mostly LIFE happened.

I haven't had such a stressful and weird period in my life since 1998. Thank goodness the worst seems to be over.

This is the longest I have gone without blogging, too. I was able to pop in periodically to check on everyone else's blogs, but my stagnated waiting for me to have time to sit down. Oy!

Here I sit. FINALLY

Everything in my life came to a head all at once. All three of the kids' activities went through the roof, obligations loomed, a friend passed away suddenly...

..and then there was THIS.

THIS is Cookie. She is a good girl, but she came to us with a lot of "un-learning" to do. And, if you are in any way familiar with Basset Hounds, you know that they can be a little...um....stubborn.

So, for almost two weeks, we have been working and working on making Cookie a dog that is comfortable and well adjusted. A few more tweaks and we'll be there.

It's a good thing that she's cute! Have you ever heard a Basset?

They don't bark; they BAY!
"A-rooooooooooooooooooooooooo. A-roooooooooooooooooooo!"

Oh Yeah! I almost forgot to mention....This was one of the "kid related" projects that set me back a bit. I was to paint coconuts for a dance.

68 coconuts. Sixty-eight.

Luckily, I actually enjoyed this one! It was a hoot. How often in life does one get to paint coconuts?

The tricky part was finding time to do it when my daughter wasn't home, as it was supposed to be a surprise.

Luckily, it all worked out in the end.

Hopefully, I am back to stay. I was able to finish up some commission work, thanks to the patience and kindness of my patrons, and I should be able to roll along until the end of the school year. (No more commissions until July, though. Too many other obligations on the table.)

From WorkWorkWork to PlayPlay Play

Doesn't every family have one of these? Pterodactyl kites ROCK! Had a bit of a "coming to Jesus" moment this week. A friend died unexpectedly. Too soon, for certain.

It made me look at my life a little more carefully. I have been spending a lot of time working lately and when I'm not making things, I am thinking about deadlines for making things. Sometimes, I am sad to admit, I have failed to be fully present in my own life.
Hence the kite. We have had this kite for a long time. It was high time to actually USE it. And have FUN using it.

So we did. It was cold and dreary, but we decided to head to the beach and just live a little. The kite flew well, the kids got along fabulously and I felt as though I reawakened my sense of what is real and important.

(I'd smile, too, if I were in front of this many goodies! The cinnamon smell wafts out onto the main street. Too good to pass up!)

First I found this.

He was sitting on a blanket at the Veteran's Stadium, waiting for someone to make an offer.

Look at those eyes. How could I say no?

I wasn't sure what to offer....$30? $20? So I just asked the man how much.

He told me. He said, "$3.00".

HUGE grin. Into my bike basket quick as a wink and home we went.

My kids named him Ralphie. He lives next to my computer.

I never did learn of Ralphie's origins. I have searched for patterns, but to no avail.

He seems to be a combination of handmade and machine sewn, but I don't know from where he came.

Imagine my surprise when I saw THIS little guy.

Very similar face, no? (Check out the awesome wool felt shoes!)

I purchased him from eBay just to see how he was constructed and perhaps where he was made.

His tag says 'Austrian Gnome'. He has a wired body and some kind of furry stuff for his cap. (It sheds.)

Please enjoy these photos from my yard while I track down my muse and force her to get back to work! She is well practiced in the fine art of avoidance, but I am pretty crafty as well.

It will be a contest of wills.

This gnome was hiding a white egg at Easter, which blended in with his ceramic mushrooms really well. It took the kids awhile to find it.

Either that or they were freaked out by the gnome himself. I'll have to ask.

This is the tree with the door. We still aren't sure who lives here or where the door leads, but we'll figure it out someday! We love to sit and speculate.

Blossoms, blossoms everywhere. Spring has sprung for sure! This one is good for bee watching.

This is our Mimosa tree. It will appear dead until mid summer or so, at which point it will green in and bloom and be FABULOUS until late fall.

Most of the year, though, it looks like this.

Isn't this the coolest bunny you've ever seen?

My husband was home when I found out that my swap partner was Flora. He remembers because I gave out a whoop that would wake the dead. Then I made him look at all of Flora's work.

I had been following Flora's work and she is one of my absolute favorites. Her work is always appealing to me.

Now you can see why I was so excited!

Let's be honest. Even her hang tags are adorable and they're just part of the packaging!

In addition to the sad, darling little bunny up top, she also sent this charming little brooch. Isn't the face great? Cuteness personified!

This is just an update on some recent things I've made. This is the most pompous bunny in the world. He looks as if he would pull out the soapbox and lay it on you at the drop of a hat. Ugh!

Doesn't he look like he is ready to pontificate?

(Don't tell him, but he has a HUGE bottom. Very distracting. Not at all good for public speaking!)

This silly little thing that is about 2.5 inches from head to tail.

It's a wee little felted mermaid in the style that was around in the early 70's.

Someone was talking about these a while back and I thought it was sort of intriguing. I do have memories of dolls similar to these, though the ones I had were a funny smelling (and likely toxic) plastic.

Now what to do with it? I have no idea! Any suggestions?

they make MORE bunnies!

I wouldn't normally use a non-traditional color to make a bunny, but I just had the feeling that someone out there would want this. I wonder who?

This is my husband's favorite one. He has a very realistic "rabbit" sort of look to him.

I liked the combination of wools on this one. He has a bit of Dorset and some Merino.

Very different texures working together.

OOAK Easter bunny, needle felted by me. I used a fawn colored Dorset wool, embroidery floss, and some glass beads on this one.

Egg thief?

Nope! Just the Easter bunny.

I am working on a larger one for a fundraiser.

It might have to be brown, though, as I am out of white wool! Yikes!

On a personal note, I feel like I am losing my mind a bit. I can't recall a time when I have had so many balls in the air at once.

That is a partial explanation for my sporadic posts and my even more sporadic comments on everyone ELSE'S posts.

I still read everyone's...I just don't always have time to comment.

Can't wait for it to slow down in about 3 weeks. Whew!

Not Dust Bunnies..

...though this one could probably pass for one, given his color!

Rather, these are the bunnies I made while studiously IGNORING the dust bunnies that are developing around my house.
I have caught a bit of flack from a few friends about their price- they feel I am selling them too cheaply.

I disagree. I try to keep my prices reasonable. These are less expensive than my other similar pieces because they don't have an armature, are more loosely felted, and don't have feet.

They were made to appear as though they are sitting on their tootsies.

Materials weren't horribly expensive because they are only 2-3 inches long.

Integrity is important to me. Fairness counts.

Mitz...Mitz....Wherefore art thou, Mitz?

Mitz was the winner of my OWOH giveaway. I tried using the email that she left on my site to contact her on more than one occasion, but it doesn't seem to be working! I tried logical variations on the email as well. No response.

So a little advice from my clever friends out in the Blogosphere would be appreciated greatly.

If she doesn't see this post and respond, how much longer should I wait prior to choosing another winner?

I would hate to have Ms. Mitz contact me at a later date if I have already sent my Mud Imp on to another home! How sad!

WIPS and HIPS...Heads in Progress

Here are some HIPS...Heads In Progress.

These will be uber simple little dolls. Pressed and spun cotton, paint, and wool. That's it!

I think simplicity can be charming, don't you?

The two above look as if they have done something that they shouldn't have!

The two down here seem to be pondering what to do next.

These two are a secret right now. This is phase one. Hopefully they'll be done by the weekend!

Moving away from the heads only section of this post, here is a little box I threw together the other day.

I am not in love with how the script on the front of the box came out, but I do like the 3D effect of the bunny in front of the girl.

A real learning opportunity, for sure! The next one will be lovely, I'll bet! (I hope!)
