I love my snail riders.

I can picture them cruising around the forest, looking for something new to do.

This particular piece is for a feather tree.

You Can't Blame Me for Being Distracted!

First, there were all of these amazing sunsets last week.

The colors were really vibrant.
On the night I didn't have my camera, the sky was lavender and purple.

Amazing!

We went to the desert for New Year's and saw lots of new sights.
I thought these cacti were lovely with the back lighting.

And the best part was the badger.
No, he wasn't a honey badger, but he did make me want to take a break from my work to just sit and do as I pleased.

So I did!

Glad to be back. Hope to have some new items to post on Thursday.

Oh My!

Hope the New Year brings plenty of suprises!

My shop will be closed as of Friday so that I can spend lots of uninterrupted time with my kids.

I can't believe they have to go back to school next week.

Sigh.

Christmas Kitsch

For your viewing pleasure, some of my weird Christmas items.

I collect all kinds of mushroom ornaments.

This is a gift from my hubby.
He is supposed to be in the garden, I think, but I keep him in my living room.

A weird turnip man.
My husband and I couldn't figure out why we liked him so much.
Then we realized it looked a lot like my husband's grandfather!
Grandpa Turnip!

Here is my contribution to the "glass" tree.
It is Styrofoam. I am SO like that.
This came from Santa's Village in CA.
It reminds me of my childhood.
Kitsch-rific, no?

This is my husband's favorite childhood ornament.
Plastic Santa on a plastic plane on a velvet wrapped box.
Ah, the 70's.

Little Amanita Collector

Everyone needs a job to do.

Some build homes, some gather moss for clothing, and some stay home and mind the wee ones. Not her!.

She was meant for the winter air.

This one gets to find the amanitas buried in the snow before the reindeer find them.

It isn't always a simple task.

Sometimes the mushrooms are larger than

she is!

Her mushroom cap helps her to blend in when there are other creatures afoot.

Here are the latest additions to the shop!
Mermaids!
Two of them, to be exact.

One in aqua and one in periwinkle.

Sometimes when I am working I just go with the flow and wait to see what will happen.

These were made at the same time I was completing a commissioned piece.
A little planned, a little unplanned; this is how I get to enjoy my work all of the time.

Christmas Spun Cotton

Just right for your feather tree!

These three ladies were so fun to make and I am really pleased with how they came out.

They are spun cotton over an armature with hand sewn crepe paper clothing.

Some of the clothing is cotton as well, heavily glittered, of course!

Each angel has golden, German paper wings.

I hope to have them in my etsy shop by tomorrow evening.

Whew! Another One Done!

I am finished with my most recent commission piece, a replica of my Cannibal Corn character.

I think I like this one even better than the original.

I must say, however, that I find it far harder to replicate a previous piece than to create something new.

November Must Be Mutt Month...

...well, for me, anyway.

I have been having a blast making non-breed specific dogs.

It is especially fun because so many people end up contacting me telling me all about their dogs that look just like the ones I have felted.

Here is the latest. I modeled her after a dog from my youth named Dirty Sally.

Her owner said she was a wire haird pig with toothpicks for legs.

I just thought she was cute.

I finally feel as though I am getting all caught up on my commission work. Whew! There has been quite a bit as of late. NOT that I am complaining! In fact, I will send a request out there to the universe to keep it all coming. I am having a great time. I love a challenge.

What Do You Think About the Background?

Well, do we like background or is it too distracting?

I can't decide!

This is a Tomten I needle felted from wool.

Tomten live in haylofts. They visit with the farm animals through the long winters and remind them that summer is coming.

I think I like the way he looks as he stands in the snow outside of the main house.

The background is a bit bright when the lighting is more direct, but I don't know if that is a bad thing or not.

Opinions would be appreciated. I value your thoughts!

Today's Color Palette

This is my favorite palette: a piece of 'Press and Seal' stuck to my table.

When I am done painting, I fold it up and put it in the trash. Easy peasy!

Here are the colors of the sky in the new background I am painting.

The pictures I have been taking of my work have been slipshod at best lately.

I find myself lacking the time to make new items AND take lovely photos of them before shipping them off to their new homes.

I am hoping a new, mellow background for my photobox may help. We shall see.
